Partnerships & Programs

Wednesday After School

In the Puyallup School District, elementary schools release early each Wednesday so that teachers can have time for planning and coordination of services and so that parents can have a predictable schedule of early release or "half-days." Elementary students are dismissed 2-3/4 hours early every Wednesday. Daily schedules were adjusted so no instructional time was lost, and after-school programs were developed to provide safe locations and enriching programs for students on Wednesday afternoons.

Recognizing that this causes scheduling challenges for some families, the district has partnered with Communities In Schools of Puyallup (CISP) to coordinate after-school programs delivered by trusted local community service providers. There are dozens of programs both on and off campus that focus on everything from academics and the arts to athletics and character development. Program opportunities vary from school to school, as do transportation and cost options, and new offerings are brought online throughout the year.

For questions or more information, contact CISP Executive Director Jan Mauk at (253) 435-6689.

Bus Transportation

  • Please sign up early for transportation. Signed permission slips to ride the bus from your child’s school to another program site must be turned in to the school office at least two days before the start of the program.
  • Listed bus runs are not direct to program sites but additions to normally scheduled routes. Delays may occur which could impact program duration.
  • Because of high fuel prices, we need a minimum number of students to sign up for each altered bus run. If that number is not met or maintained, district-provided transportation options may change during the school year and parents may need to make other arrangements.
  • Sorry, but no district-provided transportation is available from program sites to home.

Scholarships

Many of the programs listed are free of charge, but many other programs charge fees for participation and supplies. Because of a wide commitment from all community partners, there are a limited number of scholarships available to students from low-income families in each program. Check with your chosen program provider.
