Career and Technical Education breaks tradition

This year the Career and Technical Education (CTE) department felt it was important to break from the tradition of selecting one Teacher of the Year in Career and Technical Education. Instead they decided to recognize the exceptional

contributions of a remarkable teacher team, Brenda Valdez from Ballou Junior High School and Heidi Matson from Kalles Junior High School.

Brenda and Heidi’s collective effort and unswerving collaboration provided leadership and support for the transition to a Microsoft Office Certification program that is preparing 7th grade students for ongoing education and living-wage careers.

“We are very proud to have them as part of our Career and Technical Education family and congratulate them on this well-deserved honor,”
said Director of Instructional Leadership, Career and Technical Education Maija Thiel.
