COVID-19 Leaves

How are staff informed when someone at their work location tests positive?
If a staff member or student tests positive, the district consults with the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) to go through the contact tracing procedure and confirm the exposure quarantine timeline for any other impacted district staff or students.

Staff and students identified as being in close contact (less than 6 feet for more than 15 minutes) with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, will be contacted by the district. They will be informed of any necessary quarantine period, asked to monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19, and directed to contact their health provider and the district if they experience symptoms or test positive. Additionally, they will be contacted by a staff member of the TPCHD who will review these instructions again and answer any questions the staff member may have.

The district will also notify staff and students when someone at their immediate work/school site has been diagnosed with COVID-19, even when the staff/student is not considered exposed and they do not need to quarantine. The purpose of this communication to those who are at the site but not impacted is to dispel rumors and to confirm that the person who tested positive will not be able to return to the school or facility until after the contagious period has passed (10 days after the start of symptoms).

In all cases of diagnosed or exposed COVID-19, the district will work closely with the TPCHD and follow all cleaning, quarantine and notification protocols.
