Career Launch
Career and Technical Education programs play a critical role in aiding students’ successful transition from secondary to postsecondary education and ensuring that they are prepared for success. The Puyallup School District collaborates with industry professionals and educational institutions to provide dual credit articulations, apprenticeship experiences, and workforce certifications to ensure students have opportunities to gain the skills and credentials necessary for employability in today’s economy.
UWT Pathways to Promise

Launched in 2013, Pathways to Promise (P2P) brings together UW Tacoma professionals and partner school districts with an intentional focus on college and career readiness. Students have access to transparent, assured admissions criteria as well as future-focused programming and visits. Link to more information.

Earn College Credit in Career & Technical Education Courses
  
The Puyallup School District has developed competency-based articulation agreements with our local colleges that help students transition from high school into postsecondary programs. Through these articulation agreements, colleges award credit to students who successfully complete college-equivalent courses and programs with a "C" or better while still in high school. Articulation agreements between the individual colleges and the school district define the criteria for equivalency and the granting of credit. If you have any questions about the process of earning college credit for Career & Technical Education courses taken in high school, contact the Career Specialist at your high school.

The Puyallup School District has current articulation agreements with Bates Technical College, Clover Park Technical College, and Pierce College. Link to more information.

Bates Technical College

Call the Pierce County Careers Connection (C3) office (253-583-8816) or email Jim Adams at [email protected]'pc3connect.org to request that dual credits be posted on a Bates transcript. PC3 will verify that credits were earned, then contact the Bates registrar to request that the credits be posted on a Bates transcript. 


Clover Park Technical College (CPTC)

Call the PC3 office (253-583-8816) or email Jim Adams to request that dual credits be posted on a Clover Park Technical College Transcript.  PC3 will verify that credits were earned, then contact the CPTC registrar to request that the credits be posted on a CPTC transcript. Visit the PC3 website for links to colleges and more information. 

Pierce College

Call the PC3 office (253-583-8816) or email Jim Adams to request that dual credits be posted on a Pierce College transcript. PC3 will verify that credits were earned, then contact the Pierce College registrar requesting that the registrar send a request form and information to the student. The student will complete the request form and send/bring it to the Pierce College registrar along with a copy of the student's high school transcript. The registrar will verify the data and post the credits on a transcript. Visit the PC3 website for links to colleges and more information.

Clover Park's 13th Year Program

As part of Clover Park Technical College’s goal to increase access to higher education, we’ve designed the 13th Year Program to provide financial and student support through the first year of college. By removing financial barriers and providing support in the transition to college, CPTC will help students pursue a college education and achieve their chosen career path. Link to more information.

Apprenticeship Opportunities

Apprenticeship is a blended learning model combining college articulated education with applied learning employment. Apprenticeships exist in many high-demand, high-technology sectors across the country and globally. Most apprenticeships in the United States are registered federally and at the state level. Registered apprenticeships adhere to rigorous program standards. They are regulated just like peer programs in public and private colleges, universities and career schools. Puyallup School District offers two apprenticeship opportunities for students while still in high school, at Emerald Ridge High School and Puyallup High School, in partnership with AJAC.

Workforce Certifications:

Pathway experts and workforce partners collaborate with our Career and Technical Education teachers in an effort to provide at least one meaningful and rigorous certification opportunity to every student enrolled in a CTE course. The goal of the certifications is to help students understand the value of certifications in careers and gain credentials that support transition into the workplace.
