Video Producers


Video Production students are part of Viking Student Media, a student-run organization that brings the student body the news they need to know, want to know, and should know to get them through their year. Students grades 10-12 will have many opportunities to see their work appear on the daily announcement show, via Viking News Network, or The Helm. Students will also have the opportunity to hear their work broadcast on KVIK, the student podcasting station.  

Students have a variety of leadership options as well as opportunities to attend conventions and conferences to meet industry professionals from around the country. Students may choose to become members of:

Video Production is designed to provide students with basic knowledge and skills related to the television broadcasting industry. This includes instruction and hands-on assignments in the following areas: camera operation, audio systems, lighting systems, preproduction, studio operations, control room operations, visual effects and graphics, and copyright laws.

Standard 1: STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CORRECT OPERATION OF THE CAMERA.

Standard 2: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF AUDIO SYSTEMS AND HOW THEY ARE USED.

Standard 3: STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF LIGHTING SYSTEMS AND HOW THEY ARE USED.

Standard 4: STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT AND COMPONENTS.

Standard 5: STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF CONTROL ROOM AND STUDIO PERSONNEL.

Standard 6: STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF PRE-PRODUCTION.

Standard 7: STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF POST-PRODUCTION.

Standard 8:
STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF VISUAL EFFECTS AND GRAPHICS.

Standard 9: STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF TELEVISION STANDARDS.

Standard 10: STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND COPYRIGHT LAWS, ETHICS, AND LEGAL ISSUES AS IDENTIFIED IN UNITED STATES CODE TITLE 17 CHAPTER 1 SECTION 101.

Standard 11: STUDENTS WILL ENHANCE THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF GRAPHIC/PRINTING AS A PROFESSION AND WILL DEVELOP PROFESSIONAL SKILLS FOR THE WORKPLACE.
