Indian Education Program (Title VI)


Supported by our families and community, the Puyallup School District Title VI Indian Education Program strives to improve academic achievement, attendance, and graduation rates of American Indian and Alaska Native students while also enhancing their social and cultural awareness.

The Puyallup School District Indian Education Program was established in 1973, and is funded by a formula grant from the Office of Indian Education under the Department of Education (Title VI of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act) and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).

The Indian Education program currently serves 326 students in 34 schools representing 65 Native American tribes, bands, or groups in the Puyallup School District and continues to grow. The top five tribes represented among Puyallup students are:

To enroll in the Puyallup School District Title VI Indian Education Program:
Student must be enrolled in the Puyallup School District and
Parents/guardians must complete a Title VI Student Eligibility Certification Form (ED 506 form) for students to receive program benefits and services. For a list of program benefits and services and how to request them, please click here.

506 forms may be obtained from your child's school, the Title VI Indian Education Program office, or click links for a fillable ED 506 form. You will need to download the form to your computer, fill it out, and electronically sign it.   • Eligibility requires the student, parent, or grandparent have Tribal membership (membership/enrollment number or other proof) with a Federally Recognized Tribe.   • If you have questions about the ED 506 form, need assistance in completing this form, or have questions about Tribes, Bands or Organized Indian Groups, please contact the Indian Education Specialist Michelle Marcoe by email or phone at 253-840-8852.
  • ED 506 forms become part of your child's school records and will not need to be completed every year. ED 506 forms will be maintained in the Indian Education Program office and information on the form is confidential and not shared with others.
