SUMMER LEARNING ACADEMY 2022
Summer Learning Academy (SLA) is a summer school half-day program offering an increased focus in reading and math for elementary and junior high students, and credit retrieval opportunities for high school students. Summer Learning Academy is only available to students who have been identified as needing additional support over the summer.
Registration Process
The Assessment and Categorical Programs office works directly with schools to determine which students would benefit most from this summer learning opportunity. Families with students who have been identified as needing additional support will receive an invitation to register and follow the below registration periods below:
• Grades K-8: April 27 – May 11
• Grades 9-12: May 23 – June 3

• Elementary Locations (Grades K-4):8:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Transportation
Bus transportation is provided to and from Summer Learning Academy locations for students who live in-district. Bus stop locations and times will be finalized and communicated to families in June.
Families residing in a walking radius* of a Summer Learning Academy location will not receive transportation services. *Elementary, 1-mile radius; Secondary 1.5-mile radius.
Bus stop locations for Summer Learning Academy students will be different than school-year bus locations. The Transportation department will create SLA bus stop locations based off the number of students registering and transportation needs. When registering, families will have the opportunity to enter the address of pick up and drop off to help determine bus stop locations. Bus services will be available for daycare and Right At School locations.
Bus Assignments/Notifications
District ‘bus bulletins’
will be replaced with a new system this summer.
Bus assignments and notifications will be provided through the Traversa
Ride 360 notification system. Families
are strongly encouraged to sign up for services by
downloading the Ride 360 app. Ride 360
will be used to notify families with bus stop information and bus delays when
Summer Learning Academy is in session.
Bus assignments will
contain the bus stop location and approximate stop time for pick-up and
drop-off. Sign up for Ride 360 now to ensure you receive your child’s bus
assignment as soon as available. Traversa
Ride 360 can be accessed via the web or mobile app.
For information on how to access the Traversa Ride 360 website and mobile application click here.
Before and After School Care
Right at School (RAS) summer camp will be offered at Firgrove and Stewart
Elementary this summer from 6:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Transportation will be provided for families attending Summer Learning
Academy schools. Summer Camp registration information can be found here. If
your child has special transportation needs while attending RAS Summer Camp, contact
Transportation at (253) 841-8775.
Meals
Although the mid-morning learning schedule does not include
a built-in time for breakfast and lunch, special consideration has been made
for young learners in grades K-4. For
students in grades K-4, free lunch will be served from 10:15 – 10:30 a.m.
We
remain committed to connecting families with food resources. If you have
a special circumstance and need assistance while your child attends Summer
Learning Academy, contact
Food and Nutrition Service at (253) 841-8773.
Attendance Expectation
It is vital that students attend class each day. Many skills build on each other and learning
is boosted as students’ progress through lessons. However,
if your child needs to miss a few days we ask that you let your child’s teacher
know well in advance.
We are confident that your child will gain skills, have fun, and
explore new ideas in learning by attending Summer Learning Academy.
