Dan Vesey/Deb Munson Art Show

It was a beautiful weekend for students and families to attend the Washington State Spring Fair. For more than 10 years the Puyallup School Districts, in partnership with the Washington State Fair, has provided the opportunity for students to showcase their accomplishments and talent in several different venues throughout Washington State Spring Fair.

At the Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration Showcase, artwork and writing representing celebrating diversity displayed in the Showplex. At the same time musicians and other performers entertained the crowd throughout the day at the Coca-Cola stage.

Across the fairgrounds at the Pavilion students took part in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) showcase. Students were awarded in four categories, Scientific Practices, Inventions, Technology, and Reverse Engineering. Individuals or teams were awarded Best In Show based on a grade level band. Over 500 entrees were submitted and 85 awards were earned.

The 20th annual Vesey-Munson Art Show was held at the spring fair for the first time. The decision to move the art show from the Karshner Museum and Center for Culture & Arts was to increase student participation and public exposure to student achievement in the arts.

Students from across the district took part in this year’s art show. Their artwork was selected by local artists and demonstrated student acquisition of art concepts, techniques, and creativity.

What began in 1998, the Vesey-Munson Art Show has grown to become a highly anticipated and recognized event. Students, parents, and community members look forward to opportunity to view the talented artistic skills the students display.

The art show was created in honor of two former Puyallup School District art teachers, Dan Vesey and Deb Munson. Vesey and Munson were respected and adorned by their students and peers. They inspired students and held the highest standards for creativity and originality. The mission “the arts are for ALL students” continues throughout the district and community.

The Vesey-Munson Art Show continues to be an excellent opportunity to celebrate and honor the achievements of the students and celebrate the tradition of excellence in the Puyallup School District.

Congratulations to all the 2018 Vesey-Munson Art show participants.
