This year Communities In Schools of Washington is partnering with the Washington State Fair to aid families in need of school supplies in Washington.

Admission to the Washington State Fair is FREE at the Red and Gold gates with a suggested donation of school supplies from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, September 9, following the Western Rodeo Parade and Cattle Drive. School supplies must be new.

The Western Rodeo Parade and Cattle Drive is an hour-long event that begins at 10 a.m. and travels down Meridian Street to the Washington State Fair.

Communities In Schools of Washington is working in public schools to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

In Washington last year Communities In Schools site coordinators helped 73,948 students overcome barriers to success, stay on track to graduate, and aim for a brighter future.

Communities In Schools of Washington is also partnering with Peninsula Moving and Storage to pick up the supplies. The school supplies will be collected, and the next day Communities In Schools of Washington will divide the supplies and distribute them to the 12 participating school districts.

Puyallup School District is one of the twelve participating districts so families in our own community will benefit from this drive.

The Washington State Fair begins Friday, September 2, and runs until September 25.

This year supplies needed include:

  1. Backpacks for secondary students
    1 ½” to 4” inch binders
    Filler paper
    Binder dividers
    Markers
