Posted on 03/30/2017

At the end of the school day today three Fruitland students reported seeing someone walking in vicinity to the school with what appeared to be a weapon of some kind.

Puyallup Police were contacted and the school was placed into lockdown.

Because it was time for dismissal, buses were diverted. In addition, some parents faced locked doors at the school.

Once Puyallup Police were able to complete an area sweep it was determined that an aerial sweep should be completed. KING Guardian One was deployed to the area and a visible sweep was conducted. it was determined there was no visible danger.  Unfortunately, students were dismissed much later than the scheduled dismissal time and arrived at home later than usual.

Puyallup Police were joined by district staff in the Fruitland parking lot to update parents. In addition, updates were provided on the district Facebook page and the Fruitland Facebook page. Principal Melayne Jones sent a message to all Fruitland parents/guardians (725 recipients) using SchoolMessenger Communicate at 3:59 p.m.
