New teachers welcomed at annual Kiwanis breakfast

Some were local high school graduates returning to teach in their hometown. Others came a great distance. One came all the way from South Africa.

More than 140 new Puyallup School District teachers were welcomed recently during the annual Kiwanis Club of Puyallup new teacher breakfast. The event was held at Aylen Junior High on August 25.

Superintendent Tim Yeomans welcomed the new teachers. “We are glad you are here. We have one goal, and that is to improve instruction so students will be well prepared for post-secondary opportunities when they graduate,” said Yeomans.

Puyallup Police Department Captain Scott Engle, a member of the Kiwanis club and parent of a Puyallup student, spoke to the teachers, administrators, and community members. He welcomed the new teachers and wanted them to know the Puyallup community supports them 100 percent.

The Kiwanis Club of Puyallup was founded in 1921 and has hosted the annual new teacher breakfast since 1944.
