Two Puyallup Teams Earn WIAA State Academic Champions

Congratulations to the Rogers High School girls gymnastics team as well as the Puyallup High School girls wrestling team. They have been identified by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) as Class 4A Winter State Academic Champions!

WIAA awards one team per sport with State Academic Champions every season. In order to receive this award, a team must hold the highest cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) for that sport in their division.

The Rogers High School Girls Gymnastics team, led by coaches Carleigh Rounds and Danielle George, earned a combined team GPA of 3.71, the highest GPA average in the 4A division for girls gymnastics.

The Puyallup High School Girls Gymnastics team, led by coaches Bryan Bartelson and Dani Andrews, earned a combined team GPA of 3.77, the highest GPA average in the 4A division for girls wrestling.

The Rogers girls gymnastics team and Puyallup girls wrestling team will both be recognized by the Director of Instructional Leadership- Athletics, Health, and Fitness, Rick Wells at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Puyallup School District Board of Directors on March 20 at Edgemont Junior High beginning at 6 pm.

Rick Wells stated “Receiving the Academic State Champion honor speaks well of the self-discipline and determination of each athlete on the teams. The Puyallup School District and the greater Puyallup community can take satisfaction in what has been accomplished!”
